Majorityrights Central > Category: European NationalismThanks are due to the commenter mysteriously and, one would think, temporarily calling himself LePen for posting a video link to Jean-Marie Le Pen’s interview with the BBC’s Stephen Sackur. It was posted today on the thread to a piece I put up nearly three weeks ago. It is worth watching, lasts one hour and is part of the BBC’s HARDtalk series which goes out on BBC World. It was broadcast on 28th November. There are two ways you could approach this interview. You can study Le Pen’s performance for signs of his suitability for the Presidency, if he stands. Or you can marvel at Sackur’s wildly excessive liberal posturing, right down to calling Nick Griffin a racist criminal and Le Pen himself a racist and anti-semite. The latter, given Sackur’s problems in Israel in the past, does seem slightly hypocritical. But anyway the anti-semite jibe paid off because Le Pen wearily and correctly explained that he had never said the fateful words that all liberals in France attribute to him, to whit “the holocaust is a detail of history”. He was referring, he told Sackur, to the gas chambers - which, as it happens, go entirely unremarked in all the WW2 Allied leaders’ memoirs. Be that as it may, the opportunity for the self-appointed guardians of our anti-racist purity to spontaneously combust was just too tempting.
A little good news is needed now and then. The pioneer spirit is still alive. As a person somewhat responsible for the resurgence in technology prize awards, I have a few things to say about Burt Rutan’s capture of the Ansari X-Prize by being the first to fly a man to space in a reusable craft twice within a week. He follows the great technology pioneers Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh, both of whom came to prominence during similar fair contests: The Guggenheim Trophy and Orteig Prize respectively. (From these exemplars some might now see a reason the powers that be shy away from fair contests—contests where they can’t really control who wins the prizes—and it was left to an Iranian family, the Ansaris, to fully fund the X-Prize.) A speech by Burt Rutan before the National Space Society is worth a view (requires QuickTime ). He repeatedly and angrily declares his embarrassment at the risk averse culture that has strangled the pioneer spirit since the feats of the 1960s—nearly 40 years ago. I’ve got my issues with his speech but we clearly agree that something went horribly wrong with the pioneer spirit subsequent to the 1960s. The turning inward of the human potential has resulted in the halting of human progress upward and outward with aerospace technology being bureaucratically and monotonously scaled up for jumbo jet transportation. The result is the sort of danger warned of by Charles Lindbergh in his 1939 Reader’s Digest article “Aviation, Geography, and Race”: a sea of humanity threatening our race which is, after all, a global minority. Indeed the technological exemplar of this era has been driven by the rise of finance to preeminence—the inward-turning microelectronic revolution. The unintended side-effect of this revolution you see before you now as a website, but it is small consolation for the damage to our pioneer spirit. As we were warned by Henry Ford the great struggle of the 20th century was creative industry vs global finance. Global finance has dominated the past 30 years or more. Perhaps men like Burt Rutan can lead us out of our malaise and realize the human potential. If so it may be due to prize awards like the Ansari X-Prize that give men even younger than Burt Rutan a chance to make a name for themselves purely via their own grit and gifts.
The Norwegian electorate has turned its back on Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik’s Christian Democrats and their main Conservative allies, electing a Red-Green alliance to office and making the “far right” Progress Party the largest party of opposition. If a parliament dominated by Reds and Greens and the far right sounds pretty wacky you could be right. But in Norway, apparently, life has the odd political idiosyncrasy. For one, they get away with some amazing election material:-
The Progress Party also has some very wacky policies for a supposed party of the right:-
Yes, well, we would all like a small retirement apartment in St.Trop. But there are an awful lot of North Africans mooching around southern France, you know. Not sure where the benefit lies. But maybe Jean-Marie could offer French voters a reciprocatory ski deal in the Frozen North, which would at least make the whole thing a cost-free exchange. That’s “progress”, surely. Unless French pensioners also wear masks and carry shotguns.
Some months ago a good man with some powerful opinions quit the MR threads without apology or explanation. He mailed me thereafter, and though in my own mind I had been quite content to assign him to that unloved and disrespected category of the semitically-obsessed, he has in fact forced me to re-examine my assumptions about him, about Nationalists and Nationalism in general. And this he has done not through the force of argument but, unwittingly no doubt, by personal virtue. I am, let it be said, a succour for personal virtue. It does not count for much now, perhaps. But in my formative years it most certainly did. My generation was raised in the full awareness that one day we could, like our fathers and grandfathers before us, be called up to defend the nation. It did not happen. The New National Service Act, which came into being with peace in 1945, was ended in 1963 when I still only eleven years old. A full and free life stretched before me and before all those of my wretched generation. What we did with it politically, of course, is turning out before our eyes to be the most grave and final of treasons. It is my self-indulgent generation – and no other – that has demeaned our nation as some kind of multiracial, governmentally administrated geographic unit excused by universalist “ideas” and “values”. Suffice it to say that these fine liberal “goods” have absolutely no connection to the public and private virtues with which, for the most part, our parents and teachers attempted to imbue us. In the fifties that much of Old England still remained, and I am grateful for it.
For me, certainly, and no doubt for many other MR folk the suddeness with which “Peak Oil” has come on to the scene, like a great wave rising out of a calm sea, has produced rather more questions than answers. One of these is: why is it of such interest to nationalists? Obviously, it does not seem to matter at all yet to the mainstream political parties. In the UK none of the three mainstreamers have indicated more than a passing acquaintance with the concept. It’s true, though, that they all have deep ideological investments in ever-rising productivity, consumption and GDP, and that may explain it. But interestingly, even the Green Party has paid scant attention thus far to Peak Oil and its staggering economic, social and political implications. The one exception in my little country is the British National Party, which is striving with might and mein to interest its membership in the issue. Yesterday Nick Griffin put up an article on the BNP website and also announced the launch of a special Peak Oil section in its newspaper. The latter has a very interesting resumé titled Opportunity?. It is either a piece of frothing at the mouth by frustrated, second-rate minds and political no-hopers ... or it is rather visionary and the source of hope for those who don’t welcome an endlessly diverse future. Read and decide for yourself. In Griffin’s article he reveals that he expects to “challenge for power” around 2030. Yes OK, far enough away to be faintly possible, near enough to keep his supporters digging into their pockets. But cultural marxism, our ruling ideology, will not last indefinitely anymore than classical marxism did. 2030 is certainly within the range of possibilities for an ideological collapse no less spectacular than 1989’s. Griffin may be right about his March on Westminster, you never know. He may be right about Peak Oil. The latter would hugely help the former, though, and that’s the point. He believes the Peak can be scaled, and nothing happens in politics without belief.
Lee Barnes, who looks after the BNP’s legal affairs, has lodged a formal complaint with Offcom about the Channel 4 programme, “Let ‘em All In” written and fronted by open borders enthusiast, Keenan Malik. The programme, one of four being aired by Channel 4 this week on the immigration debate in the UK, made extensive use of the famous “Feudin Banjos” music from John Boorman’s 1972 classic film, Deliverance.
Le jour où nous aurons en France, non plus 5 millions mais 25 millions de musulmans, ce sont eux qui commanderont. Et les Français raseront les murs, descendront des trottoirs en baissant les yeux Jean-Marie Le Pen, explaining to anyone who will listen that, “The day when we have not five million but twenty-five million Muslims in France, it will be they who rule. And the French will stick against the wall, jump in the gutter and lower their eyes. Of course, it brought him another conviction and fine from the (anti-) French establishment. He’s been collecting them since the 1960’s. His stubborness and verbal extravagance have cost him in excess of $200,000. I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t much care about that. For the desperate and the irredeemable any publicity is good publicity. In that bullish, foolhardy-brave way he has, Le Pen is perfectly irredeemable. And, if you happen to be one of those, of course, extreme far right French nationalists, he is undeniably inspiring.
To add to that, readers who are interested in knowing a little more of van Gogh and why he died, please read the comment by Braveheart in the thread of my initial post on the killing. You will find there a translation of van Gogh’s last press article. My thanks to Braveheart for that.
